Want something sweet for a rainy day wedding? Add a little sparkle to your rainy day with a pair of amazing DIY rain boots. A friend of mine is getting married in 2017, and we had a long convo about how she wants a pair of sparkly wellies. With her wedding going down in England, and the likelihood of rain there, she wants to leave nothing to chance. We scoured the internet for some cute styles, but decided some DIY wellies might be super-sweet–especially for the budgeting bride!
Super-Simple DIY Sparkle Wedding Wellies
Your sparkle doesn’t have to be glittery, it can also be a pearl shimmer. Either way decide the way you want to go by choosing a paint:
- Krylon Glitter Blast Spray Paint
- Rust-Oleum Metallic Pearl Spray Paint
Both of these spray paints are budget friendly and come in a variety of colors to match any wedding theme or color palette.
You’ll need:
- One pair of wellies
- Spray paint
- Newspaper
- Clear Acrylic Sealant
- Rubber gloves (fitted)
To avoid any type of paint ending up all over your hands, you’ll want to put on a pair of rubber gloves. Stuff your wellies with newspaper, so paint won’t leak down inside them. Lay a large piece of newspaper down in a secluded, dry area. They will need to dry out of the way and somewhere that doesn’t get damp so if the weather calls for rain, wait for a dry day.
Simply spray each boot with your spray paint. Let dry for 48 hours. Spray with clear acrylic sealant. Let dry 24 hours. Voila! Sparkly wellies for your special day.
Partial Sparkle DIY Wellies
If you just want some partial sparkle, have no fear.
You’ll Need:
- Aleene’s Jewel It Glue
- Fine & Coarse Glitter
- Painters Tape
- Paint Brush
- Two Bowls
- Clear Acrylic Spray Sealant
Make sure your boot is clean and dry. Tape off the section you wish to glitter with your painter’s tape. Pour both your glitters into a bowl. Add about ⅓ cup of Aleene’s to your glitter bowl, and mix well. Paint a thin coat onto one boot. Hold it over the second bowl and pour a lot of course glitter onto it. Set aside for five minutes, and do the second boot. Pat the first boot glue down; follow with the second boot after five minutes. Allow to dry for 24 hours.
Spray both boots with clear acrylic sealant. Let dry an additional 24 hours, and you have one embellished pair of wellies for the big day! photo credit
