A lot of people are eating clean these days. If you’re hosting a small dinner party wedding reception, there are ways to keep it posh and feed your guests some sweet, clean eats! From paleo to gluten-free, these recipes are sure to have everyone super-satisfied at a fraction of the cost. While we might love to eat healthy, we also don’t want it to taste like cardboard. Check out my super sweet ways to pack a flavourful but healthy punch at your wedding reception.
Paleo/Gluten Free Burger Bar
Put out various options like all beef burgers, grilled chicken breasts, grilled portabellas, black bean burgers, and turkey burgers. All the trimmings such as grilled peppers, cheddar cheese, beetroot, fried egg, bacon, lettuce, tomato, dill pickles, onion slices, avocado slices, mustard, mayonnaise, ketchup, and more. You can always go with a gluten-free bun, but my favourite is the Sweet Potato Bun! Simply peel and cut sweet potatoes into ¼ inch discs. Brush with olive oil. Salt and pepper. Place on an aluminum foil-lined baking tray, and bake for 15 minutes at 350F/180C.
Healthy Italian Bar
You can clean eat and fuel up on hearty Italian eats, as well! Try rice pasta or gluten-free options that hold a good firmness like a rotini. Put out various sauces to choose from like puttanesca, carbonara, pasata & olive oil, marinara, pesto, and red pesto. Toppings like mozzarella and parmesan cheese are good for the gluten-free guests.
Meatball subs are also a sweet setup. I just love Lexi’s Kitchen–if you hadn’t figured that out by now!
Serve them up with a low-budget antipasto salad, caprese salad or gluten-free pasta salad packed with veggies and Italian style dressing.
Clean Dessert Bar
Let’s face it–the reception is all about the cake. No one gives up carbs, gluten or sugar for fun.
Giving these up shouldn’t mean you have to forfeit delicious desserts on your wedding day either!
While fresh fruit is a seriously sweet ‘go to’ when it come to clean eating, I have found some fantastic recipes that have fooled some of my most serious critics.
Banana Chocolate Drizzle Cake Pops
One of my favourite snacks to quench my sweet tooth are Lexi’s Banana Bread Donuts, so why not make them into cake pops! Oh, yeah! Super-moist, these lil’ guys will keep in your refrigerator, for up to three days, if you pop them into a sealed container.
Drizzle with melted organic, dairy-free, dark chocolate for some added indulgence.
Lemon Lime Polenta Cake
Lemon Lime Polenta Cake is super easy, moist and delicious. My favourite recipe is from the BBC, and truth be told I omit the orange, the flour and the caramel sauce–and replace it with a honey yogurt. Absolutely delicious!
