If there is one thing I’ve learned in the art of fashion (according to London Fashion Week), it’s that every girl should know how to do a quick, easy updo. This is a great way to get the girls over for a little bridesmaid hair tutorial, wine, and a sleepover. Make a night of it and bake some cookies, address some invitations and practice this lovely (and easy) Bridesmaid Up Do!
Chignon with a Poof
This is quite possibly the most low-maintenance hairstyle you can ever do! Why? You’re rollin’ with bed head.
I like to start with bed-head because it gives you a nice wispy effect and frames your face. You want your hair to have product from the day before, like a little hairspray–this will help create that big, full volume you want on top. So, if you insist on washing your hair before bed I recommend lightly teasing all over with a brush. Hit it with volumizing hairspray, then go to bed.
You’ll need:
- Thin tooth comb
- Brush
- Volumizing powder (you don’t have to break the bank here, your local beauty supply store or pharmacy will have Got2b POWDER’ful and I love the stuff)
- Dry Shampoo (if you’ve got roots that get a little oily no matter how recently you’ve shampooed)
- Volumizing Hairspray
- Bobby pins
- Hair tie
Tidy Up
Use the dry shampoo to tidy up without having to wash and dry your hair all over again. I am madly, truly, deeply in love with Living Proof PhD Dry Shampoo because it really does give you Perfect Hair Day. It’s sold out at Birchbox at the time this was posted, so here’s a link to Amazon.
Volumize
Sprinkle a good amount of volumizing powder (oh, a good second choice since it looks like POWDER’ful is getting tougher to find: Big Sexy Hair volumizing powder) on top of your head and work it in a little with your fingers. Start at the back of your head, and pull half-inch sections of hair up and tease from the root; go about halfway up the shaft of the section, hit with hairspray. Repeat this, moving forward to your bangs until all the hair on top of your head is teased.
Smooth and Pin
Lightly brush over your bangs to smooth the tease. Grab the left side of your bangs and pin it to your head; you can push it forward here to get the height you want before you pin it down. Repeat this on the right side. Hit with hairspray. Push your fingers straight into the poof and lift up in a firm manner,, spray with hairspray and remove your fingers; this will add height.
Create Chignon
Finally, pull the back section of your hair to one side. Wrap a hair tie around your hair as if you are making a ponytail, but fold your pony in half like a bun. Wrap your tie around one or two more times until secure. Lightly pull the pony poof out of the hair tie a bit.
Here, you can secure the poof to your head with bobby pins or let it slightly dangle out of your hair tie. Set with hairspray and you’re ready to go! source
